Middle School

The ages of 10-14 are an important social and academic phase in which children learn to think more critically, discuss in more depth, and build important social and individual boundaries.

To this end, our 6th-8th graders get longer class periods of 35-45 minutes to allow for deeper study and discussion of the more in-depth topics they will be covering.

Students still have plenty of time for socialization, and as with the rest of our program, we are intentionally tech-free with no use of laptops or phones by our students.

Curriculum

Our goal in middle school is for students to transition into more responsibility for their course work in preparation for our High School classes. Some classes will begin to require that the curriculum from school be used at home and assignments be completed between classes. We also will have an assessment requirement in order to be sure students are ready to enter our program.

Students course of study includes:

  • Math (6th grade level and Pre-Algebra),

  • Literature and poetry, with many incorporated opportunities for writing

  • Shakespeare play each year

  • American history and mapwork

  • Science (three major topics per year)

  • Bible

  • Art
